Established in 2006 as a social enterprise Butterflies Garden has kept it’s mission to present beautiful food in a natural environment and give back to those less fortunate. Former executive chef turned owner, Duk Deth makes training and support available to his staff as well as the local community while maintaining high standards in food quality and safety. Deth has given a percentage of proceeds from the restaurant to charity as well as donating meals for those in need.
All the items on Butterflies menu are uniquely Cambodian, prepared with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Deth was trained at Pour un Sourire dÉnfant and Shinta Mani and has created a thoughtful menu of Cambodia classics with attention to detail. “I want to serve healthy Cambodian dishes using the freshest ingredients from our own garden, local farmers and the market”.
Since the original Butterflies Garden Restaurant opened in 2006 its social mission has been to give back to the local community. That tradition continues at Butterflies Garden today by contributing to Cambodian society. Advanced restaurant training has been provided to disadvantaged youth as the staff of the restaurant since its inception. Chef /owner Duk Deth has continued to provide income-generating opportunities for underprivileged communities while producing a unique, first-class dining experience. A portion of profits fund programs for poorer children and youth as well as English classes provided for the Butterflies staff
The butterflies flying about the garden are purchased from youth living in a poor village near the Angkor archaeological park. Many of these children are able to use this income to attend school, buy bikes, clothes and school supplies. Deth has also donated meals to rehabilitation centers, some local village schools and orphanages. “It is important to give back and provide opportunities to those that are in need.”
